Biography
Dr. Wayne E. Archibald is the Founder and Executive Director of Green Solutions International SKN Incorporated, a visionary entrepreneur, author, and lecturer in renewable energy dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions across the broader Caribbean region.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Physics from the University of the Virgin Islands. He then obtained both a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, where he also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Mechanical Engineering. As a recipient of the National Science Foundation Young Investigator Award, he spent a year at Harvard University working on the development of hydrogen fuel cells.
With over twenty years of experience, Dr. Archibald has taught at the University of the Virgin Islands and the University of the West Indies-Mona. He has been a pivotal figure in regional energy development since 2010, collaborating with prominent local, regional, and multilateral international agencies.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Archibald worked in the semiconductor industry as a Product Development Engineer at Texas Instruments in Dallas and Maxim Integrated Products in Oregon. As a professor at the University of the Virgin Islands and a Visiting Scientist at the US Department of Energy Brookhaven National Lab, he was awarded the NSF Research Initiation Grant, followed by the NSF Leadership Development Institute Award.
In the US Virgin Islands, Dr. Archibald has led numerous policy workshops for the local legislature on energy and climate change and has served as an advisor to its elected representatives. He coordinated the US Virgin Islands Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment Program, investigating the impacts of climate change on agriculture, tourism, critical infrastructure, and energy sectors. His work has been instrumental in shaping local energy policies and educating legislators on key environmental issues.
Dr. Archibald has numerous publications, including co-authoring the Caribbean chapter of the Fourth National Climate Assessment. His publication “Islands in the Sun,” featured in IEEE Electrification Magazine, underscores the impact of solar power in the US Virgin Islands.
