Sylvia Sweeney is an award winning Canadian producer/director, having produced more than 150 films/documentaries and international live events, Ms. Sweeney has contributed to many sectors within the television and filmed entertainment industries in Canada.

These roles include

• Past Associate Dean Film, Acting and Media Productions – Humber College

• Past Executive Producer National Film Board of Canada

• Past Director, Ontario Media Development Corp.

• Vice President; Federation des Journalists du Quebec

As a member of the Ontario Media Development Corporation she was a contributor to the successful launch of an innovative mechanism to increase film production in Ontario Canada, through the development of the original film tax credit system. This system is now used globally to help producers around the world to complete their film budgets. The film tax credits were so successful that Toronto is now fondly referred to as Hollywood north.

Over the years Ms. Sweeney has encouraged Caribbean administrations to develop film policies in an effort to share Caribbean stories at home and abroad.

Ms. Sweeney recently was awarded one of Canada’s most prestigious awards, the Order of Canada, awarded for her continued efforts to bridge cultural divides on a global level through the power of arts and entertainment.
